Eco Schools – Schools for the future
In most of the German States networks on education for sustainable development are established. More then 2500 Schools are involved on different levels.

The main issue of a nation wide programme on ESD is to involve more than 10% of all German schools, this means 3500 end of the year 2008.

In the field of research an development of guidelines and sets of criteria Germany developed three basic papers using the background of ensi:

1. Guidelines ESD in Secondary Education, Competencies, structures and models of participation
2. Quality criteria for ESD schools and learning arrangements
3. School profile ESD a guideline to create a school programme.
   (all publications are available on this website in the area of ensi publications in English and German language)

In the field of teacher education a nationwide working group of experts including the ensi coordinator collects and describe examples of good practice and published a basic paper for the ministries of education.
Next steps will be:

• development of course (Module) for ESD in Teacher education
• organise a new Comenius application on teacher education
