CBSS Baltic 21

CBSS Baltic 21 provides a policy and project platform in the Baltic Sea Region. Our mission is to contribute actively towards advancing sustainable development in the Baltic Sea Region by coordinating goals and activities, and by serving as a forum for cooperation across borders and between stakeholder groups.

We provide a platform for governments, organisations, communities and people to seek out new partnerships and strengthen those already in existence. By acting as a bridge between stakeholders, we aim to help them make progress towards transforming our part of the world into sustainable region.

Baltic 21 has a project-to-policy approach which means that we transform the findings or outcomes of our so called Lighthouse Project into general policy recommendations that can be applied in the Baltic Sea Region and beyond. These recommendations are introduced and promoted on different political levels such as national governments, the European Commission and the United Nations

Baltic 21 works with all aspects of sustainable development. This means that we are not just targeting purely environmental issues, but also social and economic actions in an integrated way.

For the period 2010–2015, we are focused on four strategic areas, Education for Sustainable Development is one of them:

Our goal is to make the Baltic Sea Region a leading region on eco-innovations and education for sustainable development, where sustainability is an integrated part of all education.

Thereby we facilitate the integration of knowledge, skills and competencies for sustainability into education and lifelong learning and the adoption of Education for Sustainable Development policies in each country and monitor the implementation of these policies.

We promote practical methods of sustainable development teaching enhance cooperation and networking between educational institutions and others.
